Week 15 Wrapping things up and looking ahead

This class introduced me to new forms of social media such as: Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook for businesses. With Twitter, I learned how to tweet, follow people, game followers and connect some of my favorite bowlers. It showed me how to promote products to specific groups through distribution lists. It was also fun to read other people's tweets and interact with them.

Pinterest helped me to organize my products and ideas into simple boards that I can share. It also allowed me to see other people's boards and see their ideas.  I don't consider myself to be a creative person, so Pinterest was a great creative tool for me.

previously, I only used Facebook for personal usage, but now I use it for personal business. It taught me how to like other people's businesss and get likes for my business. I learned about the importanance of posting and future posts. I never knew about Facebook Analytics before this class, but now I know how to access all this additional data.

I really enjoy this class. It has taught me so much about social media. If I ever  have my own business, I will be more prepared to promote it and publicize it.  Also from a personal perspective, I know how to use these social media platforms for myself.

Week 14 More Social Strategy

Facebook: This Social Media platform is good for my business because it tells me how people like my business and it's great promoting my products. This help on getting people who are interested in buying my products. This has helped me know how many people visit my page which helps me know when to post new content.

Twitter: This social media platform is good for my business because it tells me how many people that tweet and follow me. It also allows me to have direct communication with other people in the bowling community. It also gives me the option of making distribution lists so that I can send specific content to my followers.

Facebook Analytics

What's changed on my Facebook business page is the analytics are showing weekly data, page likes, post reach, and engagement. It also shows your 5 most recent posts and gives feedback about your posts. Another benefit is that this feedback will help you know what will be effective for future posts.

This information is important because it shows the number of people that visit your page and the number of likes you receive. It shows weekly feedback about the number of likes and post reach  which allows you to know which content people like and don't like.

Week 13 Optimizing Yourself

Audience Data & Reporting

This feature would be good for my business because it will show how loyal my customers are and give me info about where they come from. This feature also allows me to find out how customers found my website.

Flow Visualization Report

This feature allows me to see what pages a visitor looks at when they visit my site, This is important because then I can know what products they are interested in buying and what products they are not interested in buying.

Real time Reporting

This feature allows me to see how many people on my site in real time and what products they are viewing.  This is important because it will tell me what bowling products are popular. It will allow me to see how much traffic is on my website.

Week 12 Using other social media tools

The four social media tools are: Google +, LinkedIn, Living Social, and Groupon.

Google + is where you can create circles, events and hangouts. You can use circles to sort out fans or friends.

Linkedin is a great forum to to meet professionals in your field. You can connect with people you know or hoping to find. You can post questions and get information.

Living Social Customers who register with Living Social are exposed to new deals everyday. They chose to opt in to whatever deals that spark. As a business owner, you share the percentage that a customer pays for the deal. This information is shared with you as a business owner.

Groupon is using an online coupon to is a way to drive traffic to you're business for a two for one deal. A good way to reach out to find new customers. With Groupon's Solutions you have the control to completely tailor  a campaign to fit your unique business needs.

There are different objectives. Boost your posts,  Promote your page, Send people to your website, Increase conversions on your website. My business can have many types of ads.  You can create ads for you're business.  You can you Banner ads also for your business and say the latest and new products you have. You can use Twitter Advertising for you're business and say what you have are selling to customers who want to buy the products.  I would use different ways for my business. I would use the ads a lot.

Week 10 Newsletters

If I had a newsletter for my business, I would send it once a month because of my type of business I don't think it needs to go out more than that. Each month I would sent out a newsletter promoting new products and letting people know what's on sale. I would also have a feature where I highlight local bowlers and their bowling accomplishments. I can have a section of bowling tournaments and local bowling activities. I think having a section for bowling tips on how to improve your game will be helpful.

Week 9 Personal Blogging

How personal you are on your blog depends on the purpose of your blog. If it's a blog about your business then posts should be more professional with only a little bit of personality. For example, If I was giving my opinion about a product I was selling than that would be the personal part of it. If your blog is more about yourself or a non business topic than adding more personality makes sense.

On the other hand, it also depends on what your readers and\or customers want.  If they give you feedback that they want a more personal touch on your blog than that's what you should give them.  You may also share too much on your blog and readers may ask you to not be so open. The key is to know your readers and customers and finding the right balance.

Week Eight

I searched the words Bowling Products and Bowlers to find connections of bowlers, bowling alleys, companies, organizations. These were the only words to find my connections.  I found professional bowlers. Jason Belmonte, Parker Bohn III, and Chris Barnes. I also found bowling  business. Bowling vids, Inside Bowling Today, Junior Bowling Today, Tim Burg, Bowling scores, Amf Bowling, Bowling expert, MCC Social Media, Storm Bowling and Bowlingball.com

I made 2 lists: Bowlers and Bowling Organizations. The bowler list is so that my tweets are more personal because they are going to individuals.  My bowling organization list is for communication that is more general since these are companies. Making these lists help me to create specialized tweets for my specific lists. I think more people see my tweets when they are bowling which is usually at night and on the weekends.

Week 7 Comparing to similar businesses

I compared Bowlingball.com and Bowling.com to my business. I picked these 2 businesses  because they sell bowling products and have a similar target audience as my company. They both use Facebook, Twitter, and Google +.  Bowlingball.com uses Social Media better than Bowling.com. They have 144,268 Likes on Facebook compared to only 42,902 Likes for Bowling.com.

On Twitter, Bowlingball.com dominates Bowling.com despite having a similar number of followers. The 2 biggest differences are number of tweets and how many people each business is following. Bowlingball.com has out tweeted Bowling.com 4,883 to 1,786, which means 3 times as much information and interaction is taking place between Bowlingball.com and it's followers. Bowlingball.com is also following more users than Bowling.com 4,322 to 509. Again, Bowlingball.com is reaching more users 8 times more than Bowling.com. People like to be followed on Twitter and so Bowlingball.com is making a real effort to connect with customers.

I believe Visual Media can be effective for my business, but it comes down to effort. From my research of these 2 other companies I found that effort was the biggest difference maker.

Week 7 Visual Platforms

My comparision of the 4 platforms:

Youtube is a place for watching videos that people make for just about any subject. From a business perspective having a Youtube Channel or videos promoting and informing customers about new products is very valuable. Having these videos make it easy for customers to access information about products and the company's they like. For my business I don't think that YouTube is the best platform since my products are better promoted through pictures.

Instagram is great for in the moment promotion of your products. The different photo filters allow for more creative expression. I don't think Instagram is the best platform for my business because I don't need to jazz up photos of bowling ball and bags also I don't have a camera phone so I wouldn't be able to use Instagram to it's full potential.

Tumblr is about blogging about your business. to give customers more in-depth information about your company and products. It is geared towards people who like to read about products instead of watching videos.  I think this platform would work really well for my business once I become a better blogger.

Pinterest is a great way to visually organize different subject matter. By creating different boards you make it easier to navigate products or topics you want to see. You can also easily get ideas from other Pinterest users. I believe this is the best platform for my business because it's easy and effective way to see all my products.

Week 6 Businesses that I liked

I liked the pages of 6 local bowling alleys and the PBA Tour. The bowling alleys were,
  • North County Tavern and Bowl
  • AMF Eagle Lanes
  • Vista Entertainment Center
  • Surf Bowl
  • Poway Fun Bowl
  • Parkway Bowl
By getting connected to local bowling alleys. I can promote my business through local bowlers and pro shops. I can become the supplier for these bowling alleys and have banners, flyers, posters, etc that way when bowlers want to know where to get the best products my company will be the one they go to.

By getting connected to the PBA Tour, I  can stay up to date on all the tournaments and professional bowlers. Networking with professional bowlers could lead to endorsement deal which would get my company recognition national level.

Chapter 4 Target Market

Target Market:
Anyone associated with bowling including professional bowers, league bowlers, recreational bowlers and people interesting getting into the sport.  Bowling alleys are also apart of my target market because people buy products at pro shops.

Demographic:
-Men
-Ages 30 to 65
-Disposable income
- Single and Married
- Beer drinkers

Behaviors: To get feedback from customers about what products they like and don't like. I will go to the bowling alleys and talk to people in person. This will allow me to have direct and personal communication.  By gathering this information, I will have a better idea of which products to promote to my customers.

Week 3

www.craigslist.com. www.ebay.com.

1. Why are they effective?
Craigslist is effective because it's easy to search for items you want to buy or post items you want to sell all in the local area. Another benefit is that it is free to use. It also has a broader range of uses as you can rent out property, trade items, meet people, and sell services.

Ebay is effective because you can buy or sell things worldwide and you can practically find worth for any item. There is a small posting fee of any item you sell. All items usually have pictures but on craigslist the items don't always have pictures, and always want to see the item you're buying.

2. What specific principles of good design do they include and why?
Craigslist has a really good concept which is a community of people buying and selling goods and services. They use a simple typography that is easy to read on each page. It's also a easy site to use and to navigate for e-readers. All the content is categorized into sections which makes it easy to search for items.

Ebay has a good concept of buying and selling items and giving out information. Ebay is one of the most well known brands in the world. Their logo is all over the website. Ebay uses Hierarchy to promote the featured products. The fonts are easy to read. Ebay is easy to navigate and search for items that are categorized. It is also to ask for product information.

3. What makes you come back again.
I always go back to Craigslist and Ebay trying to find a good deal. Both sites are easy for me to use and I enjoy searching through them.

4. What could be improved.
Ebay could be improved with better descriptions of products that are selling or buying and Craigslist could improve by requiring sellers to have pictures of their items.

Socia Media

I think that Social Media is great and have a positive experience. A lot of people use Social Media for personal or business use.

Friday, February 6, 2015

Social Media Week 1

Facebook is for personal use  for chatting and playing games. I look at people's photos and comment on people's walls. The language we use on Facebook is even more personal since we call them our friends but in a business setting you're not a friend you're a customer.

Twitter can be for personal and business use. It is personal because you can read people's thoughts and opinion at any time and respond to them. It is also for businesses because they can connect with their customers and get immediate feedback.

YouTube is for personal use because you can watch videos of anything you want. and the videos are posted by people. People can even have their own YouTube channels and video libraries.

Linkedin is for business use and it's usually used by people looking for  jobs, clients, and partnering with new people. Owners also use it to keep tabs on their business.

Instagram is for more personal use because people can showcase all their daily photos. People can follow their family, friends and celebrities and use a variety of filters to customize their picture.

My Template Week #1

Since this is my first blog I thought that I would just use a simple template that is easy for me to understand and navigate. Once I get more comfortable I think I would move on to a more detailed template. I changed the background to blue because it is my favorite color and it's very easy on the eyes.
